It's a Mystery

Today I had to leave during lunch

to pick out stone for the front of our house.

I left my bag of cheez-its on my desk.

When I got home,

my cheez-it bag was on the floor

no cheez-its left,

only crumbs.

Neighbors

The more time we spend at the new house,

the more neighbors we meet.

To my absolute delight,

each person we've met has been very welcoming.

I am a shy person.

Especially around people I do not know.

It's always been a struggle of mine.

I am horrible at small talk and getting to know people.

It makes me anxious.

I was relieved when a few of our future neighbors

went out of their way to welcome us

and get to know us.

Conversations with them were so easy.

They are genuinely, nice people.

Good neighbors are so important to us,

since we have no friends or family here.

I truly feel God pointed us to this development.

He has lead us on each decision we've had to make.

and we are right where He wants us to be.

We are so blessed.



Disaster Averted

We had our inspection yesterday and it went really well.  The inspector complemented our builder’s work over and over.  It was a relief to hear the positive feedback since the house is going up fast.  We could tell the builder and his crew knew what they were doing, but we still had hoped they weren't cutting corners in the interest of time.  Now we've been reassured the crew is just that good. 

While we were waiting for our inspector to arrive, we stumbled upon a potential disaster.  We emailed all of our ceramic tile choices to the builder on Monday so they could order the supplies.  Most of our tile choices are fairly neutral except for the main level half bath.  I decided to step out of the neutral box and chose a really dark (almost black) tile.  I’d been hoping I wouldn’t regret that choice.  If we hate it, at least it was a small bathroom, and not a large area.

We arrived at the house yesterday and to our surprise, they were already done laying tile, except for the kitchen/eating area.  They left the kitchen undone since that area would see a lot more foot traffic.  The half bath looks great and I’m glad I chose something a little more dramatic.  The inspector was running late so I moseying around the house a little more.  I went out to the garage and stumbled upon many unopened boxes of the dark tile.  It dawned on me the builder was planning to install this dark tile in our entire kitchen/eating area too!  We called the builder over right away and pointed out their mistake.  Thank GOODNESS they decided to wait before installing the kitchen tile, or that would have been a much more uncomfortable conversation. 

We think they messed up the tile names.

Our kitchen tile is named Canyon Slate (on left) 

while our half bath tile is named Midnight Copper Slate (on right).

Drywall will be finished today so we will get out there later tonight to snap some pictures. 

I’m looking forward to seeing the actual room sizes.



Charlotte Motor Speedway

  

Last weekend, we toured Charlotte Motor Speedway
with Matt's parents while they were here.

Look closely and you will see Bob.

This place is HUGE.

 

There was a driving school on the track

and we were able to watch a few cars in action.

It was neat to see how fast they were driving,

knowing it was only a fraction of the speed

the cars are traveling during an actual race.

Unlike other sporting events,

the seats closest to the track are cheaper

than the nosebleed section,

since you can see the entire track from the top.

We were able to ride on the actual track (in a tour van)

where our driver completely stopped on the turn.

The turn is banked at 24 degrees and it was enough

to feel like the van was going to flip.
Once we got to a traveling speed of 80 - 90 mph,

we barely noticed them.

We saw pit row and the winner's circle,

then drove over to the Zmax dragway and the dirt track.

It was all really neat to see in person,

NASCAR fan, or not.



7 Weeks

until we are LIVING in our house.

  

Yesterday we had our electrical walk-thru this morning

where we decided all areas we want to have

electrical outlets, internet, and TV hook-ups.

Visitors and Home Update

We had a wonderful weekend showing our FIRST visitors around.

Ma & Pa Snegosky drove down from Minnesota to visit us.

We took them to see the house and were surprised

to see the entire first level framed.

We also found time to go hiking in the state park,

tour the Latta Plantation, and drive through

Davidson (home to Davidson College), Troutman, and Statesville.

We were treated on Sunday night to a walleye fish fry.  Mmmm!

They are spending the week in DC with Aunt Linda & Uncle Tom.

While they are there, we will be entertaining our SECOND visitors,

Kate & Brent!

We LOVE having our family here!  We've missed them so much.
