Toddler Bed Quilt

At my first quilting attempt,

My measurements were WAY off

and I ended up with a quilt top

to fit a king sized bed.

I still plan to finish that quilt,

but I decided to use the left over squares

and make an actual toddler bed sized quilt.

For this second attempt,

my measurements were much more spot-on.

I found a pattern I liked

with the left over squares.

I sewed them all together

to create my quilt top.

I put my quilt top over my mattress pad (batting)

and the quilt backing,

then pinned all three layers together.

For my first attempt,

I sewed two straight lines

parallel to the lines on my quilt top.

I think it came together quite nicely.

I added a pillow case

(draped over the foot of the bed).

Sara Quilt and Third Trimester

While looking for a quilt

for Sara's big girl bed

I was discouraged at the cheap,

Minnie or Frozen plastered bedding sets.

All the nice etsy quilts

were over $100.00.

So...

I decided to make one myself!

My first real quilt.

It is currently a work in progress.

Speaking of a work in progress...

Sara's sister is in her third trimester.

Sara the Beaver

 

 

In the mornings,

Sara usually wakes up

and talks to her blankie.

Happy as can be.

 

One morning recently,

She had a little chat, followed by silence.
 

Anyone with wee ones will tell you

silence is no good.

 

I went into her room and found Sara

chewing on the railing of her crib

like a cute little beaver!

 

 

 

 

I quickly Googled for a solution.

 

Preferably a sewing solution

because I love a good reason to sew!

 

I found instructions on how to craft a teething guard.

Luckily, I had scraps from Sara's curtains and pillow

from THIS post.

 

I made a crib teething guard

that matches her room beautifully!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Latest Projects - Follow-up

Not to be defeated...

I had just enough fabric left over

to take another stab at Sara's dress.

This time it fits...  barely.

I doubt she will be able to wear it again

after this picture...

BUT

at least there's proof it was worn once.

The Latest Projects - Sewing Related

Sara has been exploring with her hands

so much lately

so I made her a taggie blanket.

It was much cheaper and cuter

than anything I found online.

I am most proud of this dress.

Unfortunatly, it is too small for Sara.

It was great practice for a larger dress

in the near future.

Last, but not least...

When I started making a lot of baby blankets

Matt asked for a Duck Dynasty blanket.

We found fleece camo fabric

and I surprised him with a sewn on beard.

It's not a Duck Dynasty blanket without a beard, right?

Did I mention there's a hole in the beard

for him to drink beer through?



I'm Nesting

Although,

instead of cleaning like a mad woman,

my nesting instincts are

driving me to sew.

On Bob & Cindy's last visit,

they brought me the sewing machine

that once belonged to Matt's grandma.

At first, I felt intimidated by it.

I don't ever recall using a sewing machine before.

But, after a lesson from Cindy,

I tried a few things on my own.

First I tried a decorative pillow for the nursery glider.

When that went well I tried a few baby blankets.

It was fun to pick out fabric

and put together the baby blankets.

Now I need more girlfriends to have babies

so I have an excuse to make more.

My most recent adventure in sewing

is the book rack shown in the picture above.

For weeks now, I've tried to find

a forward facing book rack for the baby's room.

I wanted something that would display the covers

and make it easier for toddler Snegosky hands

to pick out a book.

I scoured Pinterest and found many ideas

(rain gutters, Ikea spice racks, etc).

But eventually gave up on the DIY route

and checked the big box retailer websites.

That's when I found this book rack.

It was affordable and exactly what I wanted,

except for the ugly pastel colored book pockets.

My recent pillow and blanket successes

must have given me

a boost of confidence in my sewing abilities.

I decided to order it and make my own pockets.

It was easier said than done,

but I am thrilled with the final product!

Here are the pockets it came with,

which are perfect for my Easter baby!

However, not as ideal for year round use.

Onto my next sewing project... TBD.
